A Messenger arrives in the town of Nazareth.

The town of Nazareth is a tiny town in Israel's northwestern region. It was Mary's and her soon-to-be-husband Joseph's house. Joseph had been promised to Mary for a long time, and he was a carpenter by trade.

Mary was a young woman who was still a virgin because she had never married. It's safe to believe Mary led a regular and peaceful existence. Mary would have liked the natural comforts and familiarity of a life engaged to a carpenter in a rural town away from the noise and bustle of the capital in Jerusalem.

That is, until Gabriel, the messenger, arrived....

It was just another ordinary night when a divine messenger appeared to Mary out of nowhere. This messenger was brilliant, carrying all of heaven's majesty with him–a scary sight for a young woman from Nazareth to view.

This messenger announced that Mary would be the mother of the Messiah, who had been predicted for a long time.

Mary will bear this boy, the messenger said, and he would be named Jesus and nicknamed Immanuel, which means "God with us." To a virgin like Mary, this was obviously surprising news.

Mary enquired of the messenger as to how this was possible. She had never slept with her soon-to-be husband and knew she couldn't be expecting a child. The holy messenger then disclosed that the son would be born from the most high God's spirit.

Mary is reported to have overjoyed once she realised the circumstances of the conception. She realised that the birth of her soon-to-be son, Jesus, would permanently transform the world.

Joseph's Irrational Belief.

For his time, Joseph was a traditional man. He was a devout Jew who took pride in his profession as a carpenter and did his best to uphold the rules of the state. That is why he was shocked and angry when he learned that his betrothed was expecting a child.

It wasn't a hateful or malicious fury, but rather one born of fear and confusion. Mary had not yet become his wife, and learning out she was pregnant would be a betrayal and a disgrace to him.

Joseph might have had Mary stoned and put to death under the rules of the period. Joseph, on the other hand, was a kind man who did not desire vengeance.

Soon after, a messenger came to see Joseph. This messenger informed Joseph what they had told Mary: that the child would be the prophesied Messiah, the rescuer of all people. Then Joseph made the decision to marry his betrothed and protect her and her family from all embarrassment.

Even though he knew Jesus was not born of his flesh and blood, Joseph would live his life as the father of Jesus.

The Census is taking place at this time

The region of modern-day Palestine was under Roman sovereignty in the years leading up to Christ's birth. The Roman empire had spread its fingers across the area, enforcing its dominance over both Jews and Gentiles.

The Roman empire intended to make sure that all of its people paid their taxes according to the law of the land at the time. This necessitated a census of each citizen of the territory, according to their birthplace.

According to the laws of the land, every family would be required to journey to the patriarch's birthplace. In this case, it was the Davidic line in Bethlehem, of which Joseph was a descendant.

This meant Joseph and his pregnant wife Mary would have to travel the treacherous roads from Nazareth to Bethlehem, a distance of more than 150 kilometres. This would be a difficult voyage for Mary, who was pregnant, and they would have to find a place to stay once they arrived.

A Place To Live

The ancient town of Bethlehem was the birthplace of Ruler David, Israel's third king. As a result, anybody descended from David's line had to return to Jerusalem to complete their duty for the Roman census. This resulted in all of Bethlehem's inns being overcrowded and unable to accept new guests.

The innkeeper was willing to accommodate Joseph and Mary for the night, but it would have to be in the stable with the animals. They gratefully accepted the lodging for the night, fatigued from their long travel and Mary about to give birth any day now.

The monarch of mankind would make his glorious debut here, amid the farm animals, in this lowly stable.

A new king has been born

A group of modest shepherds gathered in a field late at night. They were keeping an eye on their flock at night to keep them safe from predators and robbers. This was the night when the Messiah was born.

Above the gathered shepherds, an angel appeared out of nowhere in the night sky. The angel announced that God's son had been born in David's hometown. The angel announced to the shepherds that this was the awaited Messiah, the rescuer of all mankind. When the pronouncement was made, a swarm of heavenly beings descended from the sky and began to sing the praises of God's son, who had been born that night.

The shepherds leapt to their feet and dashed to Bethlehem, a nearby town. They discovered what the angel had stated there. They had discovered the baby Jesus, wrapped and put in a manger, along with his mother Mary and father Joseph.

The shepherds left the stable that night, reporting what they had seen and heard to anyone who would listen. They announced to anybody who would listen that the promised king of Israel had been born, and that the Messiah had arrived among them. This message immediately spread, and

The birth of this baby–this child who possessed the might of the most high–would soon be known to the entire globe.

Gifts are brought by the Wise Men

Three Magi (wise men) in the east saw a star that they recognised as the birth of the anticipated Messiah. They set out on a journey to find the king who had been born, following that star.

Herod was the King of Judea at the time. Herod had heard the news of the Messiah's birth spreading throughout his kingdom. When the wise men arrived, they approached Herod and inquired about the Messiah's whereabouts. Herod informed them that the Messiah had arrived.

Bethlehem, Judea, is where he was born.

When the wise men found the Messiah, Herod requested that they bring him to him. When Herod found this youngster, he promised he would worship him. It was, however, a lie, and Herod had secretly intended to murder this child, whom he considered as a threat to his power.

However, the wise men had been warned of the plot to kill Jesus in a dream, and they did not return to Herod. Instead, when they found Jesus, they brought him gifts. They brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh as well as other valuables. Before leaving, they showered the infant with gifts and worshipped him.
